this is england

This opening to the film "This is England" shows images of real British events that occurred at the time that the film is set. This opening sequence shows us that the film is going to be political by the video clips that are shown. It tells us that there are going to be issues of race, social groups and violence. The fact that the images are mostly documentary style clips suggests that the film could be in the genre of social realism, as a convention of social realism is to film with naturalistic documentary/hand held-style recording. Aswel as documentry shots there is also a tracking shot which sets the scene of the film and sets up the location, which is meant to come across as a rough place, this can be shown by the vandalised garages, warn down houses and an overall groggy look about it. The music layed down in this opening sequence give the viewer a relaxed feeling, it has quite a slow pace to it when showing the fun aspects of britain, but when the more harder imagaes are shown like the fighting and the violance, the beat changes slightly and becomes quicker, each beat goes alongside a punch or a slam of a petrol bomb onto the floor.
